CBI Arrests Key Accused Behind Illegal Call Centres Targeting US Nationals

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a major accused in a cyber fraud racket linked to illegal call centres that allegedly targeted US citizens. The accused, Vikas Kumar Nimar, was detained in Lucknow after evading arrest for over a year, the agency said on Monday.

Nimar, believed to be the main operator of VC Infrometrix Pvt Ltd, was wanted in a case registered on September 24, 2024, involving four illegal call centres functioning from Pune, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. A warrant for his arrest had been issued by the chief judicial magistrate in Pune.

Acting on a tip-off about his presence at his Lucknow residence, the CBI conducted a raid last week. During the operation, officials busted another illegal call centre allegedly being run by Nimar, once again targeting US nationals.

The search led to the seizure of 52 laptops containing incriminating digital evidence, which the agency says were being used for cyber fraud activities.

Nimar is accused of setting up and managing multiple illegal call centres across different states, making him a key figure in the transnational cybercrime operation.
