According to Sirsa SP Deepak Saharan, the victim received a message on October 10, 2024, from an unknown number claiming he could earn massive returns by investing through a trading app. The fraudsters added him to a WhatsApp group named Team Zerodha, where fake profit screenshots were posted to build credibility.
The victim was then directed to download an app called JD Trade Pro, register, and invest through net banking. Convinced by fabricated profit entries, he invested a total of ₹7.4 lakh. When he attempted to withdraw funds, the scammers demanded an additional ₹5 lakh, prompting him to approach the police.
A case was registered at Sirsa Cyber Police Station, and investigators tracked down and arrested the accused. Police said he will be produced in court and taken on remand for questioning, with efforts underway to recover the defrauded money and identify other members of the fraud network.
Authorities cautioned the public against sharing banking details with unknown contacts and warned about online investment scams. SP Saharan advised victims to immediately report cyber fraud by contacting their nearest police station or calling the national helpline 1930.
