A High Court lawyer from Panchkula was cheated of nearly ₹82,000 by cyber fraudsters who posed as bank employees. Based on his complaint, the Cyber Crime Police Station has registered a case and begun an investigation.

Vikas, a resident of Dolphin Apartments, told the police that he received a call from someone claiming to be an employee of Federal Bank. The caller said that his Scapia credit card application could be approved on a card-to-card basis and asked him to send the statement of his American Express credit card to a given email address.

Vikas said that during the process, he received an email. As soon as he clicked on it, his mobile phone got hacked. Shortly after, he received a message informing him that ₹82,893.77 had been deducted from his American Express credit card. That is when he realized he had been tricked by someone impersonating a bank official.

Investigating Officer SI Bhoop Singh from the Panchkula Cyber Crime Police Station said that a case has been registered. The police are currently checking the accounts where the stolen money was transferred. He added that technical evidence is being collected to identify the fraudsters and that the investigation is underway.
