The accused, identified as Rene Joshilda, was already in custody in Gujarat for similar offenses. She has now been brought to Bengaluru on a body warrant after investigations linked her to multiple bomb threat emails targeting schools in Karnataka.
According to police, Joshilda had earlier come under the scanner in Chennai and was found to have issued bomb threats to schools and public venues across several states, including Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. She allegedly even sent a threat email to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Joshilda was first arrested by Ahmedabad Police in June. Further investigations revealed her involvement in sending threatening emails to six to seven schools in Bengaluru, warning that she would “blow up your schools like the Gujarat plane crash.”
A special investigation team led by Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Joint Commissioner (West) Vamshi Krishna, and DCP (North) Nemagouda discovered that the accused used sophisticated cyber tools to conceal her identity. She reportedly used a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and virtual mobile numbers generated through an app called Gate Code. She also managed multiple WhatsApp accounts to execute her plans.
Investigators believe the motive behind the hoax threats was personal revenge, as Joshilda was allegedly trying to frame a man who had rejected her romantic advances.
Police have registered seven separate cases against her in Bengaluru and are coordinating with other state police units to investigate her activities across India.
Authorities have urged schools and institutions to remain alert and report any suspicious emails immediately to cybercrime officials.
