Six Arrested in Multi-State Cybercrime Crackdown

In a week-long crackdown on cybercrime, Delhi Police have arrested six individuals in separate operations for their alleged involvement in online frauds, including digital arrest, fake work-from-home, and extortion scams. The raids were conducted across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, officials said on Thursday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharad Bhaskar Darade, the operation targeted cyber networks that used sophisticated digital traps to defraud victims.

In one case, police arrested Gulpham Ansari from Ranhola Extension, Delhi, for allegedly extorting a woman by leaking her private videos. Ansari reportedly created fake social media accounts to circulate the videos among the woman’s relatives and friends while demanding ₹3 lakh. Police recovered seven mobile phones, three ATM cards, two cheque books, a passbook, and two SIM cards from him.

In another operation, two men — Shiva and Punit Kumar alias Sahil — were arrested from Ballabgarh, Faridabad, for their role in a digital arrest scam. The duo allegedly duped a woman of ₹11.75 lakh by posing as law enforcement officers and threatening her under the pretext of a money laundering investigation.

Meanwhile, Ankit Sonkariya was apprehended in Jaipur for running a fake work-from-home job scam. He allegedly cheated a woman of ₹2.74 lakh by promising payments for reviewing locations on a maps application.

Police also busted another cyber module operating a fake “BSES metre verification” scam, arresting Lavlesh Kumar and Harbhajan from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The accused reportedly tricked victims into downloading a fraudulent app, through which they accessed banking details. One complainant lost ₹16.52 lakh, of which ₹6 lakh was traced to accounts linked to the accused.

Police said the coordinated operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle organized cybercrime networks targeting citizens across states.
