The accused, identified as Sumit Kumar, had earlier been arrested in 2020 in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was released on bail in February 2021 but stopped appearing before the court and was declared a proclaimed offender in March 2024.
According to police, the girl’s father filed a complaint stating that his daughter received a message on social media from the hacked account of her former tutor. The sender falsely claimed that her nude photos were leaked online and sent her a phishing link, asking her to log in to secure her account.
When she entered her details, the accused hacked her account and later coerced her to share obscene pictures by threatening her. He also sent morphed images of the girl to her family and demanded money, threatening to post the fake pictures online if they didn’t pay.
A senior police officer said Kumar was arrested from a wine shop in Noida after a well-planned operation.
During interrogation, Kumar admitted to committing similar crimes in the past. He had earlier been arrested in Malviya Nagar for using the same method—hacking women’s social media accounts, impersonating them, and extorting money by threatening to release morphed photos.
After jumping bail in 2021, he fled to his native village in Bihar and later began working as a housekeeping supervisor at an IT firm in Noida, thinking the police would not find him.
Police said he confessed to committing the crimes to make “easy money.” Officials are now investigating whether he was involved in other similar cases.
