Most Common Passwords of 2025 Revealed: ‘123456’, ‘admin’, and ‘India@123’ Among Top Choices

Despite constant warnings from cybersecurity experts, weak passwords continue to be a major threat to online security. A new study by Comparitech has revealed that the most commonly used passwords in 2025 include ‘123456’, ‘admin’, ‘password’, and ‘India@123’.

Researchers analyzed over 2 billion compromised accounts found on data breach forums this year. Their findings show that millions of users are still relying on simple, easily guessable passwords.

According to the report, ‘123456’ remains the most popular password, used by over 7.6 million people, while ‘admin’ was used by nearly 1.9 million. ‘India@123’ ranked 53rd among the 100 most common passwords.

The report highlighted that human laziness continues to make password guessing “as easy as ABC and 123.”

To help users strengthen their online security, Microsoft recommends using passwords that are at least 12 characters long and include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. It also advises avoiding names of people, products, or characters.

The findings come shortly after a startling revelation from France, where investigators discovered that the Louvre Museum’s core security system was protected by the password “LOUVRE.” The National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) uncovered this weakness while investigating the Rs 900-crore daylight robbery on October 19.

According to reports, the same issue had been flagged as early as 2014, raising concerns about how such simple passwords can expose even high-security institutions to serious risks.
