India’s Online Astrology Boom Comes With a Warning: Beware of Cyber Scams

India’s astrology market is growing faster than ever. According to RedSeer Strategy Consultants, it has already crossed ₹60,000 crore and could grow ten times bigger by 2030 — mostly through online platforms. The trend isn’t limited to India. In the U.S., the online astrology business is worth nearly USD 3 billion and is expected to triple in the next five years, says Allied Market Research.

Astrology today isn’t just about predicting marriages or careers. It’s even entering the world of finance. Some traders now use “astro-trading,” where they combine stock market data with planetary movements to make investment decisions. One such trader, XYZ, claims to have earned returns up to 90 times his investment. He even sells astrology-based trading dashboards for USD 500 a month, offering insights into when to buy or sell stocks. Even major business TV channels like CNBC Awaaz and ET Now have started featuring astrologers for market forecasts.

Interestingly, most of the users driving this boom are young. Platforms like AstroTalk say that 84% of their 70 million users are under 35. The rise of AI-powered astrology has made horoscopes and readings faster, cheaper, and more personalized — offering comfort to those anxious about relationships, careers, or finances.

However, experts warn that this digital rise also has a dark side. Cybercriminals are exploiting the growing interest in astrology. Many scammers pose as astrologers, offering free consultations and then asking for money to perform “rituals” or provide remedies. Once victims share personal or banking details or click on fake links, their money disappears.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has issued alerts about such scams. Officials warn that people in emotional distress are often the easiest targets.

Authorities advise people to stay alert. Never share your personal or banking information, avoid clicking unknown links or downloading suspicious apps, and never share OTPs. Genuine astrologers will never ask for sensitive financial details.

As astrology’s online market continues to grow, one thing is clear — while technology can make astrology more accessible, staying cautious online is the only way to keep your stars and your savings safe.
